Frequently
Asked Questions
Where is the best place to
drill a new well for my house?
Do I need a permit to have a
well drilled?
Yes,
you are required to have a permit to have a well drilled. There is a well
registration fee with each well. The permit requires you to register your well
with the state that your well will be located in. Downey Drilling, Inc. will
take care of filing the permit and registering your well for you.
How much water will I need
to supply my water needs?
The
amount of water that you need to supply your water needs varies on many
different factors. There are many different factors that need to be taken into
account such as your daily needs for water in the house and the needs outside
the house such as a lawn sprinkler system. Let us know what your daily water needs
are and we can provide a system that fulfills those needs.
What should I do to
safeguard and maintain my water well?
Water is one of the most precious natural resources that is available to us today. It is important for you to take the necessary procedures to protect your water well. You should safeguard the area around your well. For example, do not pour used oil from engines on the ground near the well site, do not store paints, chemicals, or fertilizers in or around the well site. Another procedure is to make sure that your well casing is at least 12 – 16 inches above ground level. It is against state regulations to cut your casing off below ground level. Buried wells tend to develop leaks and allow contamination to enter your water supply. Wells which extend above ground make pump maintenance and repair easier and more cost effective.
What should I do if I have
an odor, taste, or color in my well water?
If
you have an odor, foul taste or a discolor to your well water, you need to
contact Downey Drilling, Inc. We are licensed in water quality testing and can
take a sample of your water to determine what is wrong with your well water.
After the water sample testing has been completed, we can provide you with
recommendations to eliminate the odor, foul taste or discolor in your well
